Do drinks make the metabolism work like food does?

Brigitte asked:

I’m trying to increase my metabolism, but I really do not have the appetite to eat 5 – 6 meals a day, even if they are small. The most I can manage is 4. However, I was wondering if I could make up the extra calories through drinking anything with the required calorie count. Will it have the same or a similar effect?

metabolism is the body’s process of converting sugars into ATP (chemical energy your cells can use.) so, feeding your body sugars, whether through food or drink stimulates the metabolic process. be careful though, drinking 100% juice will help your metabolism speed up, drinking a coke will have the opposite effect because the refined sugars require more enzyme activity to break them down into sugars that your body can metabolize.

yes drinking calories is the same as eating them. It might even be better because the food is already separated into small particles and has a relatively large surface area for digestion. So it might be digested and absorbed faster and more efficiently.
