Is there a way to replace a normal solid food diet with liquid nutrients?

mcfetii asked:

I’m a 21 year old male, 5′ 11”, approximately 180 pounds. I joined a gym about three weeks ago and have had several personal training sessions since that time. I never belonged to a gym before and never had a structured exercise or diet regime. I’m pretty out of shape, but naturally athletic. My goal is to maintain a 175 – 190 pound weight with well defined muscles.

I would like to know if there is any type of product that I can buy that would totally replace regular solid food. I think that I would be able to follow a diet more easily while I’m training if everything were pre-prepared for me or easily made using only a blender. Shakes, smoothies… whatever. Just as long as there is NO GUESSWORK involved in preparing meals. Two scoops of this, six times a day…. that kind of thing.

Please let me know if there is anything out there that would fulfill my requirements in responsible way.

    Fastest Way to Lose Weight

You know when grandpa gets old and cant swallow anymore. families get the crazy idea that quanity of life is better than quality, so they ask the doctor to shove a feeding tube in his stomach so he can be fed thru a tube hanging out of his stomach for God knows how long. Maybe years of lying in a vegetative state with no quality of life.
Yep! There is a such thing as liquid feeding and you can actually gain wait drinking it. Some examples of these are
    Ensure
    Boost
    Fibersource High nutrition
    Diabetic FIbersource
    Vivonex
    elemental formula

    How to Lose Weight

Slim Fast. But you should have at least one solid meal a day.

And you don’t really need to go on a diet. Just eat good food, stay away from fast food places. If time is a problem, there are some nutritious microwave meals..

    How to Lose Weight

you can but it’s not optimum for fat loss…

while tracking calories is easier with a liquid diet there are some downfalls. shakes, smoothies, etc. don’t keep you feeling full as long as whole food meals which can lead to overeating. you can much out on veggies if that happens, I don’t count the cals in them (veggies) towards the daily intake some do. liquids also don’t provide the same thermogenic effect that whole foods do. for the non-obese the metabolic rate increases every time we feed. this is called the thermogenic effect of foods (TEF). basically it’s the amount of calories that the body expends digesting foods. this accounts for a good 5-10% of the metabolic rate.

I would suggest doing half the meals liquid and the other whole foods and alternate them. also adding some fiber and healthy fats to your drinks will delay gastric emptying, which will help to slow digestion some
